"Abbiamo perdonato, ma non vogliamo dimenticare. Non possiamo permettere che sia affossata la memoria dei più di 600 goriziani deportati 57 anni fa, alla fine della guerra". Con queste parole il sindaco Gorizia, dott. Gaetano Valenti, ha reso omaggio il 3 maggio 2002 al lapidario dei deportati del Parco della Rimembranza. A fianco del primo cittadino, era presente la presidente del Comitato dei congiunti dei deportati in Jugoslavia, Morassi Stanta, eletta dopo l’improvvisa e recente scomparsa della presidente Lidia Giana.
Dopo aver deposto una corona d’alloro ai piedi del monumento, la rappresentante delle famiglie degli internati ha sottolineato con commozione l’importanza del ricordare i parenti scomparsi: "Siamo rimasti ormai pochi nell’associazione, ma proseguiremo nell’atto di ricordare i nostri morti. Ma anche se siamo stati capaci di perdonare, vorremmo sapere dove portare i fiori in loro memoria". Un punto rimarcato con forza anche dal sindaco, che ha ringraziato i componenti del sodalizio per la tenacia e l’impegno dimostrati in tutti questi anni.

"We have forgiven, but we don't want to forget. We cannot allow to be buried the memory of 57 years ago when more than 600 citizens of Gorizia, have been deported at the end of the war." With these words the mayor of Gorizia, Dr. Gaetano Valenti, on 3 may 2002 gave homage at the lapidary of the deported in the Park of the Remembrance. On the side of the first citizen, was present the president of the Committee of the families and relatives of the deported to Yugoslavia, Morassi Stanta, chosen after the sudden and recent disappearance of the president Lidia Giana. After having deposed a crown of laurel to the feet of the monument, the representative of the families of the internees underlined with emotion the importance to remember the disappeared relatives: "We have remained by now few in the association, but we will continue in the action to remember our corpses. But even if we have been able to forgive, we would like to know were to bring the flowers to their memory." A point also observed with strength by the mayor, that has thanked the components of the association for the tenacity and the commitment shown in all these years.

Oltre a numerosi parenti dei deportati, alla cerimonia di commemorazione sono intervenuti anche diverse autorità, tra cui i quattro candidati sindaci (a Gorizia, infatti, si rinnova il Consiglio comunale il prossimo 27 maggio) l’onorevole Romoli e il prefetto Andreana.
Il gruppo si è poi trasferito nella chiesa del Sacro Cuore, per assistere alla messa di suffragio voluta dal sodalizio organizzatore. Il rito è stato officiato dall’arcivescovo emerito Antonio Vitale Bommarco, nativo di Cherso, che ha fatto riflettere i presenti sul valore della pace e sull’importanza della storia: "Dobbiamo trovare la forza di perdonare, e sviluppare la capacità di dialogare, per alimentare il clima europeo di unione tra i popoli. Ma basta dare un’occhiata a quello che succede al giorno d’oggi per capire che la storia purtroppo non ci ha ancora insegnato niente, eppure sta a tutti noi prenderla a modello per il futuro, e porre fine alla tragedia della guerra".

Besides numerous relatives of the deported, at the commemorative ceremony have intervened also various authorities, among which the four candidates for mayor (in fact, the next 27 may in the town of Gorizia there will be the renewal of the Communal Consul ) the honorable Romoli and the prefect Andreana. The group then moved to the church of the Sacred Heart, to attend the mass suffrage wanted by the association organizer. The rite has been officiated by the emeritus archbishop Antonio Vitale Bommarco, native of Cherso, that has made to reflect the people present on the value of peace and on the importance of history: "We have to find the strength to forgive, and to develop the ability to converse to feed the European climate of union among the people. But all it takes is giving a glance to what happens in the present days to understand that unfortunately the history has not taught us nothing yet, and yet it is up to all of us to pick it up as a model for the future, and to put an end to the tragedy of the war".

L’Associazione ADES era rappresentata nella circostanza dal vice presidente Rodolfo Ziberna, il quale ha ricordato come i giovani e l’ADES siano vicini alle vittime ed ai loro parenti. "Durante i quaranta giorni di terrore dell’occupazione delle truppe del maresciallo Tito a Gorizia, a guerra finita questi concittadini sono stati sottratti ai loro affetti per la sola ragione di essere italiani e di costituire un ostacolo al tentativo di annessione yugoslava di Gorizia. ADES, con la propria incessante attività, vuole che le nuove generazioni non covino odii verso persone, i responsabili di queste azioni, che oggi in larga parte non vivono più, bensì che conoscano per evitare che analoghi orrori si ripetano nel futuro. Costituisce, però, obbligo morale per il nostro Stato, assicurarsi almeno che i parenti dei deportati sappiano dove sono sepolti i loro cari per deporre un fiore."

The association ADES was represented in the occasion by the deputy president Rodolfo Ziberna, which has remembered as the young and the ADES are close to the victims and their relatives. "During the forty days of terror of the occupation of marshal Tito's troops in Gorizia, at the end of the war these fellow citizens have been removed from their loved ones for the only reason to be Italian and to be an obstacle in the attempt of Yugoslavia to annex Gorizia. ADES, with its own incessant activity, wants that the new generations don't brood hate toward people, the persons responsible of these actions, that today in most part they don't live anymore, on the contrary that they know what happen to prevent similar horrors to repeat in the future. It constitutes, however, moral obligation for our State, to make sure at least that the relatives of the deported ones know where their loved ones are buried to depose a flower."
