Il Saluto dell'ADES

MESSAGE OF GREETINGS FOR THE FIUMAN RALLY SENIGALLIA

Our grateful thanks to the President of the Free Commune of Fiume in Exile, his counsellors and the Council for having given us the opportunity to send you our best wishes.

For us of ADES who represent the younger generations of the vast community of the Julian-Dalmatians in exile, to be able to talk to you is always an important occasion.

Our esteem and affection make us feel part of a community composed of men and women which without hesitation we define as our community- either because many of us have parents of Julian-Dalmatian origin or because, whatever our background, we find ourselves drawn towards you morally. We participate in the pain and suffering caused by the Genocide and Exodus and whenever we talk about those events in all our initiatives we refer to them as "our" tragedy as, in our opinion, should all Italians in their deepest and most sincere feelings be as one with you.

It is with great joy that we think of you gathered together here in Senigallia - men and women representing those who suffered unjustly at the hands of the protagonists of past history. Men and women who with an exemplary sense of duty still act as witnesses of the life and culture of a community, in times not certainly generous, offering visible signs of civilisation, truth, and peace which should be nurtured by the future generations in defence of those virtues, with respect for their value and for the lives of everyone of you.

We do not know if we will be worthy of you, but please believe that we will do our best to follow your example. We will never forget and will be proud of our identity. Determination, strength and equilibrium will govern the choices we make to be able to contribute with you towards your and our hopes -to reach that legitimate dream, sought for amidst incomprehension and silence, where Pola, Fiume and Zara may conserve their Italian culture, and obtain justice and truth finally amongst men of peace and goodwill.
